  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 3/4 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Dry Ingredients
  • 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
Add-Ins
  • 1 cup maraschino cherries, drained and chopped Ensure cherries are finely chopped for even distribution.
  • 1 cup chocolate chips

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a large bowl, cream together the butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar until smooth.
  3. Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla.
  4. In another bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture until just combined.
  5. Fold in the chopped maraschino cherries and chocolate chips.
Baking
  1. Drop spoonfuls of dough onto ungreased baking sheets.
  2. Bake for 10-12 minutes or until the edges are lightly golden.
  3. Allow to cool on the baking sheets for a few minutes before transferring to wire racks to cool completely.

Notes

Serve these cookies warm with a glass of milk or vanilla ice cream. Store them in an airtight container for up to a week, or freeze them for up to three months. Chill the dough for thicker cookies. Consider adding toasted nuts or replacing cherries with dried cranberries for variations.
