  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1 packet active dry yeast
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup milk Warm, not boiling
  • 1/4 cup butter For the dough
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar For filling
  • 1/4 cup butter Softened, for spreading on the dough
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup pecans or walnuts Optional

Method
 

Preparation
  1. In a large bowl, combine flour, sugar, yeast, and salt.
  2. In a saucepan, heat milk and 1/4 cup butter until warm (not boiling).
  3. Add the warm milk mixture to the dry ingredients along with the egg and mix until smooth.
  4. Knead the dough on a floured surface until smooth, then let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour.
Assembly
  1. Roll the dough into a rectangle and spread softened butter over the top.
  2. Sprinkle with brown sugar and nuts, then roll the dough tightly.
  3. Cut into rolls and place in a greased baking dish.
Baking
  1. Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 25-30 minutes until golden.
  2. Serve warm and enjoy the gooey caramel goodness!

Notes

Let the dough rise properly for light and fluffy rolls. Room temperature ingredients help the dough rise better. Experiment with mix-ins like chocolate chips or dried fruit for a fun twist.
