For the Marinade
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce Use low-sodium for a healthier option
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar Adjust sweetness as desired
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced Toasted garlic enhances flavor
  • 1 teaspoon ginger, grated
Main Ingredients
  • 1 pound ground beef Use lean beef for a healthier option
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped Adds flavor and texture
  • 1 tablespoon green onions, chopped For garnish
  • 1 teaspoon sesame seeds For garnish
  • Cooked rice or lettuce leaves for serving Provides a base for the dish

Method

Preparation
  1. In a bowl, mix together the soy sauce, brown sugar, sesame oil, minced garlic, and grated ginger until well combined.
  2. Place the ground beef in a bowl and pour the marinade over it. Toss to ensure the beef is fully coated. Let it sit for 10 minutes to absorb the flavors.
Cooking
  1. Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the marinated ground beef, breaking it apart with a spatula.
  2. As the beef starts to brown, add the chopped onion to the skillet. Cook together, stirring frequently, until the beef is fully cooked and the onions are tender.
  3. Taste the mixture and add salt and pepper as needed to enhance the flavor.
  4. Once cooked, remove from heat. Garnish with chopped green onions and sesame seeds.
Serving
  1. Serve immediately over cooked rice or in lettuce wraps for a lighter option.

Notes

Store leftovers in the fridge for up to 3 days or freeze for longer storage. Reheat in a pan over medium heat until warmed through. For a vegan option, substitute ground beef with tofu or mushrooms.
