Ingredients
  

Dough Ingredients
  • 1.5 cups warm water Ensure water is warm but not hot to activate yeast.
  • 1 packet active dry yeast
  • 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour Can substitute with whole wheat flour for a healthier option.
  • 1 teaspoon salt
Boiling Solution
  • 1/4 cup baking soda Essential for pretzel flavor.
Topping and Egg Wash
  • 1 each egg For brushing on top of pretzel bites.
  • to taste coarse sea salt Don’t be stingy with it!
Dipping Sauces
  • to taste mustard, cheese, etc. Serve with a variety of your favorite sauces.

Method
 

Preparation
  1. In a large bowl, combine warm water, yeast, and sugar. Let sit for about 5 minutes until foamy.
  2. Stir in flour and salt until a dough forms. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5 minutes until smooth.
  3. Let the dough rise in a greased bowl covered with a towel for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
Cooking
  1. Preheat oven to 450°F (232°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a large pot, bring 10 cups of water and baking soda to a boil.
  3. Punch down the dough and divide it into small pieces. Roll each piece into a rope and cut into bite-sized pieces.
  4. Boil the pretzel bites in batches for 30 seconds, then remove with a slotted spoon and place on the baking sheet.
  5. Beat the egg and brush the mixture over the pretzel bites, then sprinkle with coarse salt.
  6. Bake for 12-15 minutes or until golden brown.
Serving
  1. Serve warm with your favorite dipping sauces.
