Method

  1. In a saucepan, combine the sliced strawberries and sugar over medium heat.
  2. Stir occasionally until the strawberries start to release their juices, about 5-7 minutes.
  3. Add the lemon juice and vanilla extract, if using.
  4. Continue to cook for another 5 minutes until the mixture thickens slightly.
  5. Remove from heat and let cool. Serve drizzled over your favorite desserts.

Notes

This strawberry sauce keeps well in the fridge for about a week. Store in an airtight container. You can freeze it for up to 3 months and thaw it in the fridge overnight before using.
